Every week during the Indy Winter Farmers Market season, we’ll be profiling one of our local vendors! You can find the full list of IWFM vendors and past profiles here.
Ludwig Farmstead Creamery, 3rd season at IWFM
We are located about 100 miles northwest from Indianapolis in Fithian, Ill. We produce farmstead cheeses. Most are made with raw milk from our own cows and are traditional European cheese recipes.
Most unique item?
Our Vermilion River Blue cheese (pictured) is a very unique “blue cheese.” It’s a triple cream cheese with just a hint of “blue” in it. I call it our “Gateway Blue Cheese” because many people who don’t like traditional blue cheese enjoy this cheese — it’s very mild and very creamery.
Why should people shop at the IWFM?
It’s a great market! The vendors provide products from the area that are of the highest quality, and there is a lot to choose from. There isn’t a better place to spend a few hours on a Saturday morning in Indianapolis.
What do you buy at the IWFM?
I could practically stock my entire pantry and fridge with the available food options at the IWFM. I buy local produce. I’m a fan of Kimchi so, I always stock up on that. Also, local breads and meats (lamb and bison).
