Volunteer Grow Getters

The Volunteer Grow Getters program is a 10-month training program for learning to garden/farm in community. Participants will grow through a full farm season, learning through interactive classroom lessons, guest experts, field trips, and hands-on farm and market work. Participants have opportunities to explore Indianapolis food and farm systems, communities and build their network.

Timing

    • Applications Open: January 2023
    • Application Deadline: February 5, 2023
    • Notification of Acceptance: February 15, 2023
    • Program Begins: March 2023
    • Program Concludes: December 2023

Location

Primary activities of the program will be located at our main farm site on the Near Eastside of Indianapolis at 727 N Oriental Street, Indianapolis, IN 46202.

Eligible Requirements

Eligible applicants must be 18 years or older. Volunteer Grow Getters will need to commit an average of 12 hours per month from March 2023 – December 2023 in order to earn a Certificate of Urban Farming.

Farm Education Series

The Farm Education Series is a collection of interactive classroom sessions designed to coordinate with the growing season. Volunteer Grow Getters will attend one classroom session per month.

      • Site Design & Farm Ecology
      • Seedlings & Transplanting
      • Weed & Pest Management
      • Hydroponics
      • Winter Production
      • Markets & Finding Your Niche

Discussions of food justice will be incorporated throughout the program.
