Indy Winters Farmers Market Returns to the AMP at 16 Tech

INDIANAPOLIS, IN., (August 25, 2022) – The Indy Winter Farmers Market (IWFM), hosted by Growing Places Indy, a local nonprofit organization, will return for its 14th season on November 5, 2022, and run every Saturday through April 29, 2023 at the AMP in the 16 Tech Innovation District. Hours of operation will begin at 9 a.m. and end at 12:30 p.m. each week. Free parking is provided by 16 Tech during market hours.

“Since 2008, Growing Places Indy’s fruitful partnership with 16 Tech has provided a venue for Indiana’s sustainably-minded family farms and food producers to sell products throughout the fall and winter at the city’s largest winter farmers market,” says Victoria Beaty, Special Projects Manager for Growing Places Indy. “Our Indy Winter Farmers Market improves the community’s year-round access to fresh, local food and places special emphasis on serving residents living in and around the historically Black Riverside neighborhood – making it easier to overcome the unfortunate challenges associated with living in a food desert,” says Beaty.

The 14th Annual IWFM will be held at the AMP, a food hall and artisan marketplace in the 16 Tech Innovation District at 1220 Waterway Blvd in Indianapolis, IN. Located inside the district’s innovation hub, HqO, the AMP boasts more than 20 restaurants and retailers in colorful shipping containers and food stalls. The AMP is dedicated to showcasing local culinary entrepreneurs – more than 50 percent of the retailers located within the space operate new concepts and sixty-five percent of the concepts are minority or women-owned and led.

“We value our partnership with Growing Places Indy and are excited to bring the Indy Winter Farmers Market back to 16 Tech again this year,” said Sibeko Jywanza, Director of Community Access & Engagement. “This weekly event plays an essential role in increasing access to fresh food options in the Riverside, Near West and Near Northwest neighborhoods, while also connecting AMP vendors directly to our neighbors.”

This year, the market looks forward to welcoming long standing returning vendors while also introducing new vendors. Interested local farmers, food producers, and small businesses selling fresh, regional, and seasonal items are encouraged to apply for a booth at this year’s market. Vendor applications are currently open. Interested parties should visit www.indywinterfarmersmarket.org to apply.

The IWFM has also announced the return of the Triple-Match SNAP Program, which allows shoppers to turn $20 into $60 of fresh food and produce. Made possible by donors, community partners, and individuals, this program provides any individual who swipes their SNAP card for $20 to receive an additional $20 of market tokens and $20 of Fresh Bucks checks. The first $20 can be spent on any SNAP-eligible item, and the additional $20 on Fresh Bucks can be spent on produce.
