Grow Getters

Grow Getters is a year-long program that provides hands-on training and mentorship with the goal to train and prepare the next generation of urban farmers. Aspiring farmers will receive ample training and mentorship for sustainable future farming practices and in result, strengthen Indianapolis’ local food systems. The program also provides hands-on farm job training, land access, equipment, mentoring, and new business development assistance.

The Grow Getters program brings to life Growing Places Indy’s vision to create a more just and equitable food system by offering needed resources to aspiring urban farmers. This year-long program will provide on-hand farm job training,  mentoring, and other business development assistance to new, beginning, and underrepresented farmers.

Applications for the 2022-2023 Season will open soon!

Location

The program will be located on the Near Eastside of Indianapolis at 727 N Oriental Street, Indianapolis, IN 46202. 

Eligible Requirements

Eligible applicants must be 18 years or older and have at least one year of continuing education or work experience post-high school. To be accepted, a candidate must be willing to work hard, have a sincere interest in the subject matter and activities, desire to take on leadership roles, and grow personally. The 15-20 hours a week will be broken into onsite training, field trips, virtual learning, and self-paced activities. 

Please note: If selected, participation will be dependent on a successful background check.

If you can’t commit to a full year, you can select a specific term below.

Projected Program Schedule

During this time frame, we will present various topics but not limited to the following. 

Summer Term: Early June – Late August

        • Managing a CSA and farm stand

Fall Term: Early September – Mid November

        • Site design
        • Crop planning

Winter Term: Early January – Early March

        • Produce safety certification class
        • Nursery management

Spring Term: Mid March – Late May

        • Preparing beds for planting and soil health maintenance 

Please note: There will be breaks in the schedule during the holiday season.
