Yoga & Wellness

Growing Places Indy’s mission is to empower people to cultivate personal, family and community wellness through urban agriculture, food access and mind-body education. With the mantra Grow well, Eat well, Live well, Be well, we provide year-round, by-dondation and meditation opportunities in hopes of helping our community Live Well.

Monthly Meditation and Pranayama

When: First Sunday of each month, 6:16pm-7pm

Where: Invoke Studio, 970 Fort Wayne Ave., Indianapolis, IN 46202

Cost: Free by donation (Any amount welcome, suggested donation $10)

This class is designed for anyone who is interested in exploring meditation and pranayama (yogic breathing techniques). Both beginners and established practitioners are welcome. Pranayama is the core link of all yogic practice, and there are many different techniques. Each session explores different yogic breathing practices, specifically designed to enhance or moving a particular quality of energy in the body. Some energize, some calm, some equalize. Pranayama has many benefits from heart health, to improving focus, to building lung capacity, and more.

Each class also explores different meditation techniques, some of which include pranayama. Meditation is a meaningful and effective way to help release stress, relax and focus the mind in today’s hectic world. Meditation also helps to develop mental strength and focus, even in the face of challenges.

IWFM + Yoga Series

When: Saturdays, 10am-11am from November 12, 2016 through April 29, 2017

Where: Boner Fitness and Learning Center, 727 N. Oriental St., Indianapolis, IN 46202

The Indy Winter Farmers Market (IWFM), an initiative of Growing Places Indy, proudly hosts weekly by-donation yoga classes during the winter market season. The IWFM + Yoga Series is an opportunity to do good for your mind, body and being by enjoying the benefits of yoga, while being part of a collective effort to raise funds for the Eat Well Initiative at the IWFM. The Eat Well Initiative provides up to $20/week matching dollars to our Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, aka food stamp) customers, helping make fresh, healthy foods affordable to all members of our community. Your donation helps to make this program possible.

Classes are taught by yoga teachers from studios all across Indianapolis. Each teacher brings their own unique style of experienced teaching. Every class is open to all levels of practitioner from beginners to experienced students.

Summer Farm Stand + Yoga Series

When: Thursdays, 4-5pm from June to August

The Summer Yoga+Farm Stand Series is an opportunity to do good for yourself by enjoying the benefits of yoga, while being part of a collaborative effort to raise funds that support the Growing Places Indy mission. Growing Places Indy works to cultivate wellness in our community through urban agriculture, food access and awareness – such as the Summer Farm Stand – and practices for living well – such as yoga and meditation. Visit the Summer Farm Stand after class and give yourself the gift of eating well from the array of fresh produce harvested from our Slow Food Garden at Boner Fitness and Learning Center that morning, and the joy of knowing your class donation helps others to do the same!
